Unfortunately, from time to time, a smoker may experience the inconvenience such as this one, a cigar draw is too tight.
First of all, don't panic. And don't let this mishap bring you down or ruin your planned moment of ecstasy. This may happen for a number of reasons, but just in case, until your next draw, take a look at a few actions you can do to solve this issue.
As with any other problem, we have to find its source to be able to take care of it. There are three major causes that could have brought us to the tight draw. Whatever it is, there's always a solution.
If your cigar has a problem with manufacture, this doesn't mean you need to change your favorite brand. Mistakes just happen from time to time. Noticing this issue is very easy though. A regularly manufactured cigar is supposed to quickly return to its original shape if you slightly press on it. This means that a piece of tobacco stem may get stuck in your cigar during its construction. Bear in mind this is a very rare occurrence but, luckily, fixable. While rolling your cigar between fingers, if you notice any hard spots on it, it's probably a plug.
-To take care of it you'll need a draw poker, or if you don't have one, you can try a thinner grilling skewer. Gently place the poker on the head of the cigar and slightly push through its center, and you'll feel when you've managed to penetrate the plug.
Another reason your cigar draw may be tight is if a cigar is over humidified. This happens when the tobacco leaves absorb too much moisture. For this reason, they tend to expand which automatically tightens the airflow. To make sure you won't experience this inconvenience, take good care of your humidor's condition, and make sure your cigars are properly humidified. -The logical solution to this issue is drying your cigar out and there are two simple solutions to this issue. First, if you own a wooden humidor, leave your cigar in a humidor without a humidifier for two or three days. Of course, use a humidimeter to check its humidity level before and after drying out. Another way to lower the humidity level of your cigar is to just leave it on a flat surface such as a table or countertop. Make sure that the room where you left a cigar is not humid. Leave your cigar overnight and you'll have more airflow and a clear draw.
The most common reason for experiencing tight draw, especially with newer cigar smokers, is if you've made an improper cut. Luckily, the solution is much simpler than any other. Just cut off a larger piece from the head of your cigar and you're good to go.
Otherwise, your cigar may be improperly lit. Make sure you do this carefully and be certain that the whole cut part was lit so you will have a clear airflow.
